{"id":995,"date":"2007-03-30T13:47:13","date_gmt":"2007-03-30T13:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hypersync.net\/wordpress\/?p=995"},"modified":"2007-03-30T13:47:13","modified_gmt":"2007-03-30T13:47:13","slug":"the_city_12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hypersync.net\/wordpress\/?p=995","title":{"rendered":"The City #12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a nice review of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeitgeistfilms.com\/film.php?directoryname=intogreatsilence\" target=\"_blank\">Into Great Silence<\/a><\/em> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/03\/29\/AR2007032901775.html?hpid=sec-religion\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post<\/a>.<br \/>\nI was talking to some seminarians last week who went to see the movie.  The movie has been held over three times now.  Anyway, they said in a full theater the movie started &#8211; silence.  Silence continued.  And more silence.  When the movie ended and as everyone filed out, suddenly someone realized as they were talking to a friend who was to see the next showing that&#8230;. wait for it&#8230;. wait for it&#8230; the theater never played the soundtrack!<br \/>\nThe entire theater sat through the whole movie in shear and utter silence &#8211; nothing.  Well, you can imagine, especially after reading the review from the Post, that the theater goers were a bit upset.  They complained to the manager.  They requested compensation.  The manager basically said, &#8220;If all of you sat through an entire movie with no sound and didn&#8217;t tell anyone, you&#8217;re all idiots and don&#8217;t deserve a refund!&#8221;<br \/>\nNow, generally, I would agree.  However, this movie is entitled &#8220;Into Great Silence&#8221; and it was playing in arguably the most &#8220;art-house&#8221; theater in New York City.  It is not unreasonable to think a silent movie was simply an artistic trick.<br \/>\nToo funny.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a nice review of Into Great Silence from the Washington Post.
