{"id":584,"date":"2005-10-03T09:07:57","date_gmt":"2005-10-03T09:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hypersync.net\/wordpress\/?p=584"},"modified":"2005-10-03T09:07:57","modified_gmt":"2005-10-03T09:07:57","slug":"mindset_list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hypersync.net\/wordpress\/?p=584","title":{"rendered":"Mindset List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beloit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beloit College<\/a> in Wisconsin puts out a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beloit.edu\/~pubaff\/mindset\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Mindset List&#8221;<\/a>every year detailing interesting tid-bits on income college freshmen.  These lists always make the rounds in higher-education, and I&#8217;ve always found them quite interesting.  The Journal of Higher Education puts out a very detailed and comprehensive profile of new freshmen every year, for those who really want the low-down on our new students.  The Mindset List is a bit more whimsical and fun.<br \/>\nHere is the Mindset List for the new traditional aged freshmen for the class of 2008:<br \/>\nBELOIT COLLEGE MINDSET LIST\u00c2\u00ae<br \/>\nFOR THE CLASS OF 2008<br \/>\n1. Most students entering college this fall were born in 1986.<br \/>\n2. Desi Arnaz, Orson Welles, Roy Orbison, Ted Bundy, Ayatollah Khomeini, and Cary Grant  have always been dead.<br \/>\n3. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Heeeere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Johnny!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is a scary greeting from Jack Nicholson, not a warm welcome from Ed McMahon.<br \/>\n4. The Energizer bunny has always been going, and going, and going.<br \/>\n5. Large fine-print ads for prescription drugs have always appeared in magazines.<br \/>\n6. Photographs have always been processed in an hour or less.<br \/>\n7. They never got a chance to drink 7-Up Gold, Crystal Pepsi, or Apple Slice.<br \/>\n8. Baby Jessica could be a classmate.<br \/>\n9. Parents may have been reading The Bourne Supremacy or It as they rocked them in their cradles.<br \/>\n10. Alan Greenspan has always been setting the nation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s financial direction.<br \/>\n11. The U.S.  has always been a Prozac nation.<br \/>\n12. They have always enjoyed the comfort of pleather.<br \/>\n13. Harry has always known Sally.<br \/>\n14. They never saw Roseanne Roseannadanna live on Saturday Night Live.<br \/>\n15. There has always been a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.<br \/>\n16. They never ate a McSub at McD\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s.<br \/>\n17. There has always been a Comedy Channel.<br \/>\n18. Bill and Ted have always been on an excellent adventure.<br \/>\n19. They were never tempted by smokeless cigarettes.<br \/>\n20. Robert Downey, Jr. has always been in trouble.<br \/>\n21. Martha Stewart has always been cooking up something with someone.<br \/>\n22. They have always been comfortable with gay characters on television.<br \/>\n23. Mike Tyson has always been a contender.<br \/>\n24. The government has always been proposing we go to Mars, and it has always been deemed too expensive.<br \/>\n25. There have never been any Playboy Clubs.<br \/>\n26. There have always been night games at Wrigley Field.<br \/>\n27. Rogaine has always been available for the follicularly challenged.<br \/>\n28. They never saw USA Today or the Christian Science Monitor as a TV news program.<br \/>\n29. Computers have always suffered from viruses.<br \/>\n30. We have always been mapping the human genome.<br \/>\n31. Politicians have always used rock music for theme songs.<br \/>\n32. Network television has always struggled to keep up with cable.<br \/>\n33. O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Hare has always been the most delay-plagued airport in the U.S.<br \/>\n34. Ivan Boesky has never sold stock.<br \/>\n35. Toll-free 800 phone numbers have always spelled out catchy phrases.<br \/>\n36. Bethlehem has never been a place of peace at Christmas.<br \/>\n37. Episcopal women bishops have always threatened the foundation of the Anglican Church.<br \/>\n38. Svelte Oprah has always dominated afternoon television; who was Phil Donahue anyway?<br \/>\n39. They never flew on People Express.<br \/>\n40. AZT has always been used to treat AIDS.<br \/>\n41. The international community has always been installing or removing the leader of Haiti.<br \/>\n42. Oliver North has always been a talk show host and news commentator.<br \/>\n43. They have suffered through airport security systems since they were in strollers.<br \/>\n44. They have done most of their search for the right college online.<br \/>\n45. Aspirin has always been used to reduce the risk of a heart attack.<br \/>\n46. They were spared the TV ads for Zamfir and his panpipes.<br \/>\n47. Castro has always been an aging politician in a suit.<br \/>\n48. There have always been non-stop flights around the world without refueling.<br \/>\n49. Cher hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t aged a day.<br \/>\n50. They are not familiar with the source of that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Giant Sucking Sound.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n3. Iraq has always been a problem.<br \/>\n4. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ctrl + Alt + Del\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is as basic as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ABC.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n5. There has always been a screening test for AIDS.<br \/>\n12. Gas has always been unleaded<br \/>\n13. They never heard Howard Cosell call a game on ABC.<br \/>\n14. The United States has always had a Poet Laureate<br \/>\n15. Garrison Keillor has always been live on public radio and Lawrence Welk has always been dead on public television.<br \/>\n16. Their families drove SUVs without \u00e2\u20ac\u0153being fuelish.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n17. There has always been some association between fried eggs and your brain.<br \/>\n18. They have always been able to make phone calls from planes.<br \/>\n44. Yuppies are almost as old as hippies.<br \/>\n45. Rupert Murdoch has always been an American citizen.<br \/>\n46. Strawberry Fields has always been in New York.<br \/>\n47. Rock and Roll has always been a force for social good.<br \/>\n48. Killer bees have always been swarming in the U.S.<br \/>\n49. Don Imus has always been offending someone in his national audience.<br \/>\nIn all fairness it should be understood that students entering college this fall do have a few items on their own lists that will separate them from many of their mentors:<br \/>\n1. For many of them today, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s all about the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153bling, bling.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n2. They know who the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Heroes in a half shell\u00e2\u20ac\u009d are.<br \/>\n3. Peeps are not a candy, they are your friends.<br \/>\n4. They have been \u00e2\u20ac\u0153dissing\u00e2\u20ac\u009dand \u00e2\u20ac\u0153burning\u00e2\u20ac\u009d things all their lives.<br \/>\n5. They can expect to get a ticket for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ricing out their wheels.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n6. They knew how to pop a Popple and trade a Pog.<br \/>\n7.
