When I worked at Kent State, I would always look forward to this list. Here it is for the class of 2013:<br \/>\n<strong>The Beloit College Mindset List for the Class of 2013<\/strong><br \/>\nMost students entering college for the first time this fall were born in 1991.<br \/>\n1. For these students, Martha Graham, Pan American Airways, Michael Landon, Dr. Seuss, Miles Davis, The Dallas Times Herald, Gene Roddenberry, and Freddie Mercury have always been dead.<br \/>\n2. Dan Rostenkowski, Jack Kevorkian, and Mike Tyson have always been felons.<br \/>\n3. The Green Giant has always been Shrek, not the big guy picking vegetables.<br \/>\n4. They have never used a card catalog to find a book.<br \/>\n5. Margaret Thatcher has always been a former prime minister.<br \/>\n6. Salsa has always outsold ketchup.<br \/>\n7. Earvin &#8220;Magic&#8221; Johnson has always been HIV-positive.<br \/>\n8. Tattoos have always been very chic and highly visible.<br \/>\n9. They have been preparing for the arrival of HDTV all their lives.<br \/>\n10. Rap music has always been main stream.<br \/>\n11. Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream has always been a flavor choice.<br \/>\n12. Someone has always been building something taller than the Willis (n\u00c3\u00a9e Sears) Tower in Chicago.<br \/>\n13. The KGB has never officially existed.<br \/>\n14. Text has always been hyper.<br \/>\n15. They never saw the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Scud Stud\u00e2\u20ac\u009d (but there have always been electromagnetic stud finders.)<br \/>\n16. Babies have always had a Social Security Number.<br \/>\n17. They have never had to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153shake down\u00e2\u20ac\u009d an oral thermometer.<br \/>\n18. Bungee jumping has always been socially acceptable.<br \/>\n19. They have never understood the meaning of R.S.V.P.<br \/>\n20. American students have always lived anxiously with high-stakes educational testing.<br \/>\n21. Except for the present incumbent, the President has never inhaled.<br \/>\n22. State abbreviations in addresses have never had periods.<br \/>\n23. The European Union has always existed.<br \/>\n24. McDonald&#8217;s has always been serving Happy Meals in China.<br \/>\n25. Condoms have always been advertised on television.<br \/>\n26. Cable television systems have always offered telephone service and vice versa.<br \/>\n27. Christopher Columbus has always been getting a bad rap.<br \/>\n28. The American health care system has always been in critical condition.<br \/>\n29. Bobby Cox has always managed the Atlanta Braves.<br \/>\n30. Desperate smokers have always been able to turn to Nicoderm skin patches.<br \/>\n31. There has always been a Cartoon Network.<br \/>\n32. The nation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s key economic indicator has always been the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).<br \/>\n33. Their folks could always reach for a Zoloft.<br \/>\n34. They have always been able to read books on an electronic screen.<br \/>\n35. Women have always outnumbered men in college.<br \/>\n36. We have always watched wars, coups, and police arrests unfold on television in real time.<br \/>\n37. Amateur radio operators have never needed to know Morse code.<br \/>\n38. Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Latvia, Georgia, Lithuania, and Estonia have always been independent nations.<br \/>\n39. It&#8217;s always been official: President Zachary Taylor did not die of arsenic poisoning.<br \/>\n40. Madonna\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s perspective on Sex has always been well documented.<br \/>\n41. Phil Jackson has always been coaching championship basketball.<br \/>\n42. Ozzy Osbourne has always been coming back.<br \/>\n43. Kevin Costner has always been Dancing with Wolves, especially on cable.<br \/>\n44. There have always been flat screen televisions.<br \/>\n45. They have always eaten Berry Berry Kix.<br \/>\n46. Disney\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Fantasia has always been available on video, and It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a Wonderful Life has always been on Moscow television.<br \/>\n47. Smokers have never been promoted as an economic force that deserves respect.<br \/>\n48. Elite American colleges have never been able to fix the price of tuition.<br \/>\n49. Nobody has been able to make a deposit in the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI).<br \/>\n50. Everyone has always known what the evening news was before the Evening News came on.<br \/>\n51. Britney Spears has always been heard on classic rock stations.<br \/>\n52. They have never been Saved by the Bell<br \/>\n53. Someone has always been asking: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Was Iraq worth a war?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<br \/>\n54. Most communities have always had a mega-church.<br \/>\n55. Natalie Cole has always been singing with her father.<br \/>\n56. The status of gays in the military has always been a topic of political debate.<br \/>\n57. Elizabeth Taylor has always reeked of White Diamonds.<br \/>\n58. There has always been a Planet Hollywood.<br \/>\n59. For one reason or another, California\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s future has always been in doubt.<br \/>\n60. Agent Starling has always feared the Silence of the Lambs.<br \/>\n61. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Womyn\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153waitperson\u00e2\u20ac\u009d have always been in the dictionary.<br \/>\n62. Members of Congress have always had to keep their checkbooks balanced since the closing of the House Bank.<br \/>\n63. There has always been a computer in the Oval Office.<br \/>\n64. CDs have never been sold in cardboard packaging.<br \/>\n65. Avon has always been \u00e2\u20ac\u0153calling\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in a catalog.<br \/>\n66.
